SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – USA Archery hosted its second Para Talent ID Camp at the Easton Salt Lake Archery Center in Salt Lake City, UT, thanks to generous contributions from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Toyota U.S. Paralympic Fund.
Through a competitive application process, USA Archery identified nine promising prospects to attend this camp and continue to develop in the para archery high performance pipeline.
During the camp archers learned about how to make the Para United States Archery Team and received expert coaching guidance for how to set goals and develop as an athlete. Participants were also introduced to USA Archery’s Junior Olympic Archery Development Program, Collegiate Archery Program, adaptive equipment and resources, coaches, and competition opportunities.
The camp was led by Jonathan Clemins, USA Archery’s Paralympic Head Coach. Assistant Coaches included former U.S. Paralympic Head Coach Randi Smith, Level 3 Coach and 2016 Paralympian Michael Lukow, Level 4 Coach Layel Mather, and 2016 and 2022 Paralympian and World Champion Lia Coryell. Also in attendance at the camp was Paralympic Games gold medalist Kevin Mather (Tokyo, 2020).
Clemins shared, “We spent two days focused on building and refining our technical and mental process, including our breathing cycle. This group was eager to learn and apply the information.
“They represent the future of our Paralympic Team. I'm excited to watch them continue to grow and develop into elite athletes and future Paralympians.”
Participant, Holly Bernard commented: “The camp made me feel like I am part of the Team USA archery family. I learned so much from all the coaches. I was able to work on my form and make my arrows fly.”
Amy White, one of the parents in attendance, added: “The two day camp was the best training, with a low archer to instructor ratio, and excellent classroom presentations.
“They pulled together a fantastic group of coaches who brought their unique perspectives to the table. Each archer was given individual instruction that allowed them to make the most of their experience. Thank you USA Archery for believing in this special group.”
