This year World Archery 3D has two team competitions. First, a mixed team composed of the top male and top female qualifiers from each division. Second, are the male and female teams. Each team is comprised of the top qualifying compound, longbow, and one either instinctive or barebow athlete on each team. For the mixed teams, Girard and Colloms qualified 2nd and will be shooting in a semifinal match on Wednesday morning on the field in Stroncone, Italy. Both USA’s men’s and women’s teams qualified for the team competition. On the men’s side, Landyn Cox, Colloms, and Butts are seeded 4th along with the women’s team consisting of Chambers, Girard, and Joella Bates. The men’s and women’s team competition takes place Friday on the Stroncone field.
Thursday, individual elimination matches will start. Matches are contested in a “shoot up” format from pools created from qualification seeds. The top 2 qualifiers for each division are pre-seeded into the semifinals, so Butts and Girard are already guaranteed medal match appearances. Saturday, the semifinals and medal matches will take place at the finals venue, Carsulae – Archeological Park.
Heather Gore-Smith is sharing daily updates from the competition on USA Archery’s Facebook and Instagram. Results from the event are available here.
