NEWBERRY, Fla. – When the 14th Gator Cup begins on the fields of the Easton Newberry Archery Center on Friday, there will be a record-setting number of archers battling for honors.
With almost 750 entrants, this year’s event - the second event in the USAT Qualifier Series - promises to be the biggest and best yet.
The outstanding archery facility in northern Florida has already hosted the final two stages of the 2023 World Archery Championships/2023 Pan Am Games Recurve and Compound trial events.
There will also be trial events for the 2023 World Archery Para Championships/2023 Parapan Am Games. Stage 2 will take place in conjunction with Gator Cup. Stage 3 will take place following the USAT Series event, on Sunday afternoon.
Categories competing in Gator Cup include recurve, compound, barebow and fixed pins. All but fixed pins will involve men, women, masters, senior, U21 and U18 divisions. There will be no senior or master division in fixed pins.
Gator Cup began with 130 archers competing in 2010. Almost six times that number will feature in Newberry over the coming days, including defending champions Brady Ellison (recurve men), Casey Kaufhold (recurve women) and Tanja Gellenthien (compound women).
You can follow events in Newberry via BetweenEnds, or USA Archery’s social media channels, including Facebook and Instagram. Photos from each day of Gator Cup will be posted on SmugMug.
The gold medal matches in the men’s and women’s division will be on Saturday morning, as a number of archers are due to compete for the USA at next week’s World Cup Stage 2 in Shanghai, China from May 16-21.
Meanwhile, the U21 gold medal matches in compound and recurve will again be streamed live on USA Archery's YouTube channel.
There are two remaining USAT Qualifier Series events to come after Gator Cup. These are the SoCal Showdown in Chula Vista, CA, and the Buckeye Classic in Dublin, OH.
