First for Mucino-Fernandez as USA enjoys six medal haul at the World Cup Stage 3

MEDELLIN, Colombia – Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez helped add two more medals to the USA’s tally on Sunday, including a first individual medal, as the World Cup Stage 3 came to a close.

Along with Brady Ellison, the 20-year-old Mucino-Fernandez took gold in the recurve mixed team event, as the USA pair came from 4-2 down to beat Korea 5-4.

Ellison would later finish fourth in the individual recurve men’s division, whereas Mucino-Fernandez rallied to take bronze in the recurve women, defeating Michelle Kroppen (GER) 6-4.

Both Ellison and Mucino-Fernandez had earlier lost their semifinals to the eventual gold medalists. Ellison’s match went to a one arrow shoot-off.

The medals earned on Sunday means the USA leaves Colombia with three gold, one silver and two bronze. No other nation won more.

On Saturday, the compound women of Liko Arreola, Olivia Dean and Alexis Ruiz took gold in the team event. Arreola became the youngest individual medalist at a World Cup aged just 15 years and 330 days when also taking gold in the compound women. Her and 16-year-old Dean were making their World Cup debut.

The USA also claimed silver and bronze in the compound men, courtesy of James Lutz and Nick Kappers.

There is one remaining World Cup stage, before the final in Mexico in September. Following Turkey, China and now Colombia, there is also a stage in France.

Remaining 2023 Archery World Cup Schedule

Stage 4: Paris, France – August 15-20
Final: Hermosillo, Mexico – September 9-10

Of those archers competing for the USA in Medellin, recurve duo Ellison and Gabe Anderson move from Colombia to Darrington, WA, for next weekend’s USA Archery Field Nationals.

For Arreola, Dean, Catalina GNoriega, Emma Kim, Casey Kaufhold and Sawyer Sullivan their focus shifts to next month’s World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland, from July 3-9.

In what will be a busy stretch, Dean and Kaufhold will then head straight to Des Moines, IA, for the USA Archery JOAD Target Nationals, which run from July 12-16. Archers can still register for this event. Early registration is open through June 21. Registration closes June 28.
