COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Medalists have been confirmed for the 56th USA Archery Indoor Nationals and JOAD Indoor Nationals after the final weekend of events, bringing to a close six weeks of competition across 15 states.
In all, there were 16 events at 15 different locations. Of those 15 locations, four were new for 2025 - Hattiesburg, Hillsborough Township, Owensboro and Rockford.
“Congratulations to all the national champions and medal winners, but also to every single competitor who stepped onto the line,” began USA Archery CEO, Rod Menzer. “A special thanks must also go to the judges and volunteers. They are the ones who make sure events on this scale – involving thousands of archers – go off as smoothly as possible.”
The final weekend brought about a number of changes among the medal placings across all divisions, as well as an incredible performance from 16-year-old Caelan Shanklin in the recurve U18 men. Not only did he break a 12 year standing 18M Indoor U18 recurve men’s world record with a 596/600 but his 1188/1200 2x18m score also broke the U18 and U21 national records and included 25 straight clean ends of 30! His score of 1,188 would have been good enough for silver in the senior division of Indoor Nationals, with him managing just two fewer points than Brady Ellison.
In compound men, Kyle Douglas and Sawyer Sullivan will share the title of national champion. Sullivan equaled Douglas’s earlier score of 1,194. The two were also level on the number of 10s (114) and 9s (6). Bronze was won by Nick Kappers. A similar story unfolded in recurve U21 men as Joshua Baek and Matthew Parmenter shared the JOAD Indoor Nationals title with scores of 575.
The husband and wife pairing of Thomas and Kathleen Stevenson each medaled in recurve 60+. Kathleen won gold in her division, with Thomas taking silver. There was a silver medal for 81-year-old Phyllis Shipman – an all-American in the sport 60 years ago – in barebow 70+ women.
Candice Caesar put 50 points on her national record as she won gold in recurve open women. Jordan White, who made his Paralympic debut in Paris aged 15, took top honors in recurve open men.
Among other highlights from the JOAD Indoor Nationals was an impressive display from 15-year-old Medina Otajagic as she took gold in barebow U18 women. Sibling success came in fixed pins with Odessa and Alina Cornick both named national champions at U18 women and U15 women respectively. Benjamin Caplan and younger brother Andrew each won silver in compound, at U18 and U15 level, while 10-year-old Elizaveta Kravchuk took gold in the barebow U13 women.
