The USA Archery Board of Directors met in Salt Lake City on Friday, December 16th. The Board was presented a summary from the staff on the state of the organization. There was much to be excited about in 2011 and things look good for 2012. Our national teams currently hold 3 of the 4 #1 World Rankings and the women's recurve team made substantial progress in the 2011 season. The Board reviewed the financials, which included an increase in revenue from 1.7 million in 2010 to a projected 2.4 million in 2011. The organization is in a strong financial position and the board approved the 2012 budget. All major USA Archery programs were funded and we should be set for another successful year.
Bill Corbin, USA Archery Chairman, was unanimously elected to serve another two year term as Chair. This will be his final term. The Board expressed their confidence in, and gratitude for, his leadership over the past four years. Due to the changes within USA Archery to remove college archery membership, both club and individual, the Board has agreed that a special election should take place to replace the current seat of the college representative on the Board. This seat is currently held by Helen Sahi. A call for nominations will occur soon after the first of the year. This seat will continue to be a grassroots representative and will be elected by all clubs other than JOAD clubs, as JOAD clubs have their own Grassroots position on the Board of Directors. More information will be forthcoming soon.
With regard to programs, there was extensive discussion regarding the format and schedule for the combined Easton JOAD National and Outdoor National Target Championship/Hoyt World Open event. In addition, discussion took place regarding U.S. Archery Team (USAT), Junior USAT and Cadet USAT eligibility. The Board and staff are working on finalizing a proposal to present to the membership for review. The Board feels it is important to receive membership feedback regarding this important program decision as it impacts so many archers.
Therefore, you will see within the next two weeks these items posted on USA Archery's website. We will provide an organized method in which to receive your comments. We encourage everyone to provide input. The Board will receive input regarding the proposal through January 8th. They are then planning to discuss the feedback and proposal and come to a final decision the week of January 16th. Again, we encourage all to review and provide input to the Board.
All of us at USA Archery would like to thank everyone for their efforts in 2011. It has been a great year for our organization and there is much to celebrate going into 2012. We hope you all have a joyful holiday season.
