Scott Blackmun, the chief executive officer of the United States Olympic Committee, attended the men's and women's individual recurve elimination round at the 2010 Archery World Cup third stage in Ogden, Utah on Thursday. He was hosted by FITA Secretary General Tom Dielen; USA Archery CEO Denise Parker; and Ogden World Cup Organizing Committee president Greg Easton.
During the morning session, Blackmun witnessed exciting matches for U.S. Olympians Brady Ellison, Jennifer Nichols, Butch Johnson, and Khatuna Lorig, in addition to current USA Archery resident athletes Jake Kaminski, Heather Koehl and Kristin Braun.
"I've learned a lot about archery and the resident program this morning," said Blackmun. "We have some serious medal contenders in the U.S. and that is some real excitement."
This is the first time that the United States has hosted the Archery World Cup, since it started in 2006. The United States will play host to this major international event again in 2011 and 2012. The 2010 edition has attracted 35 countries for the four-day event.
"I think it is really good for USA Archery to be hosting the World Cup in the U.S.," Blackmun said. "This is also really good for the United States Olympic Committee to host an event of this magnitude. Events like this are great for the Olympic movement in the United States."
He also commented on the overall importance of the United States hosting other international competitions. "It takes important relationships like the Ogden Convention and Visitors Bureau and Easton Foundations to support international events of this nature."
