USA Archery Remembers Gene Prokop

Eugene Paul Prokop Sr., age 68, of Hatboro, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at his summer residence in Fox Township, Sullivan County. "Gene" was a longtime member of USA Archery, a past President of FITA Archers of Pennsylvania, and a USA Archery Judge. 

Gene was born in Hazleton, PA on May 12, 1943 a son of the late Joseph B. & Margaret Stoffa Prokop. He graduated from the Dobbins Technical School in Philadelphia in 1960 and also attended Drexel University and Penn State University at Allentown, PA. He served in the US Navy and after discharge he began working as a Manufacturing Engineer for Mack Trucks in Allentown and worked there until the plant closed in 1990. He later worked for Synthes Corp from which he retired in 2009.

Gene enjoyed hunting, especially archery. In the course of his many years of involvement with USA Archery, he judged many tournaments, including the archery competition at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. "Gene was a great asset to USA Archery," noted Pennsylvania coach Cindy Bevlacqua, a member of the USA Archery Board of Directors. "He will be missed in our archery family." 

Gene is survived by two sons; Eugene P. Jr. (Lisa) Prokop, of Emmaus, PA and Christopher H. (Jenn) Prokop of Washington, DC; three brothers, Joseph (Jessie) Prokop of Ft. Wayne, IN, Edward Prokop and Gerald (Janice) Prokop both of Freeland, PA.

There will be a Memorial Service on Monday, June 20th, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at the McNulty Funeral Home, E Butler Dr., Freeland, PA 18224. Interment will be private.
