COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Archery has released updated versions of its Scoring Matrix for Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) and Adult Archery Achievement Programs. Key updates include the addition of 50m Compound rounds to the scoring matrix for both Achievement Programs, as well as the introduction of Barebow/Basic Compound divisions.
The Scoring Matrix is the chart that governs the different achievement awards that archers earn for reaching scoring goals at different distances. There is currently a Scoring Matrix for each program: JOAD and Adult Archery Achievement.
Existing scores that archers need to reach to earn pins remain unchanged, and Scoring Matrix updates are focused only on the addition of new divisions. Previously awarded pins continue to be valid; however, awards in the new divisions may be given only for scores shot on or after June 10, 2013.
With these updates, USA Archery has implemented suggestions received from club leaders who work with the Achievement Programs daily, as well as feedback from the JOAD Committee and USA Archery staff. "The primary goal of these changes is to make the Achievement Program reflective of the archery interests of those who are using it," explains Mary Emmons, USA Archery Outreach Director.

USA Archery is focused on including the different equipment styles used by archers in JOAD and Adult Archery Achievement. Archers from the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), the Olympic Archery in Schools Program (OAS) and 4-H should be able to transition easily to a JOAD club without needing to purchase different equipment.
The Achievement Program is designed to help archers grow in the sport of archery regardless of age or experience in the sport. The Achievement Program is geared toward helping them to develop confidence in the sport by setting and reaching attainable goals.
