MEXICO CITY, Mexico - Following compound final at the World Archery Championships today, World Archery presented the Nations Trophy, given to the highest performing nations over each year's World Cup circuit.
With twenty medals awarded to the U.S. archers in 2015, including five gold finishes, two by the compound men's team, one by the recurve men's team, and led by Mackenzie Brown (Flint, Texas), one individual and one recurve women's team title, USA Archery was awarded the first-place Nations Trophy for 2015.
Over the 2016 season, U.S. archers earned six silver podium finishes, three bronze, and the compound men's team added two more stage wins. The USA recurve mixed team won gold in Shanghai and after gold in Medellin individually, Brady Ellison (Globe, Arizona) went on to win gold at the Final in Odense, putting USA Archery 2nd for the Nations Trophy.
In 2017, USA earned another six silver podium finishes, nine bronze finishes and towards the end of the season, Paige Gore (Red Bluff, California) and Braden Gellenthien (Hudson Massachusetts) pioneered the USA campaign for gold. The duo each led their team to victory in Berlin, where they also competed together for the mixed team gold. Gellenthien then went on to win the World Cup Final in Rome to put the U.S. solidly in 2nd for the Nations Trophy again.
USA Archery Interim CEO Rod Menzer, who accepted the awards on behalf of USA Archery commented: "Team USA continues to be one of the dominant forces in World Cup archery and I am so proud of the athletes, all the hard work they have put in and the success they have had."
