ANTALYA, Turkey - The 2016 U.S. Olympic Archery Team, Brady Ellison (Globe, Arizona), Jake Kaminski (Gainesville, Florida) and Zach Garrett (Wellington, Missouri) had their final major international team competition before the Rio Games this morning at the Archery World Cup, and crushed an easy 6-0 victory.
Throughout team eliminations earlier in the week, the U.S. had a strong opening match, averaging 56.5 per set, but then shot slightly lower scores, taking a narrow 5-4 shoot off win over Germany. After a close semifinal loss 5-3 to Mexico, averaging just over 54 per set, they advanced to the bronze final with Brazil.
Brazil ranked 13th in qualification to upset India and made their second ever Archery World Cup team medal match since the circuit began in 2006. They lost to Korea in the semifinals to earn a shot at bronze.
As the U.S. sighted in on the finals field, reportedly a little off from the practice field, they took the first set 52 - 49 after an 8, 8, 9 for the first three arrows. From there it was game on. Dropping only 3 of the remaining 12 arrows out of the 10 ring, the U.S. men shot a 57 and a 59 to take a definitive match win over Brazil's 54 and 56.
Fan favorites to win gold in Rio, USA is looking strong with this team and this was a great last match to take them into the Games. Complete results from the event can be found here. For more, follow USA Archery on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
