SHANGHAI, China - In the individual elimination matches at the first leg of the Hyundai Archery World Cup today, top compound seed Reo Wilde (Pocatello, Idaho) had solid wins through the semifinals. Wilde faced Pierre-Julien Deloche of France, who took the seminfinal win 146-145 after picking up a one-point lead in the fourth end. Wilde will shoot against Australia's Patrick Coghlan for bronze in the finals this weekend.
Steve Anderson (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Braden Gellenthien (Hudson, Massachusets) were upset early with Anderson falling in a quarterfinal shoot-off with a 10 that wasn't as close to the center as his opponent's, and Gellenthien and Bridger Deaton (Pella, Iowa) exited in the 1/8th.
Zach Garrett (Wellington, Missouri) also faced an early upset by the Netherlands' Sjef van den Berg 6-2 in the 1/8th. 23rd seed Collin Klimitchek (Victoria, Texas) shook the brackets, earning a spot in the 1/8th after winning a shoot-off with a perfect X. He then made a strong run against Korea's Im Dong Hyun, but Im took the win 6-4 with a 29 to Klimitchek's 28 in the final set. Brady Ellison (Globe, Arizona) also fell in a shoot-off with Korea's Kim Woojin in the quarterfinals.
Competition resumes tomorrow with the compound finals where the compound men's and mixed teams shoot for bronze and Wilde takes on Coughlan in the afternoon.
