 U.S. archer Khatuna Lorig (West Hollywood, Calif. / Chula Vista, Calif.) was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the women's Individual Elimination Round on Thursday afternoon at the Beijing Olympic Green Archery Field. The 26th seed, Lorig lost to #2 seed and current World #1 Yun Ok-Hee of Korea, 111-105. The archers braved a cold rain throughout the match. After falling behind by three points through the first three arrows, Lorig never seem to get in a rhythm. She lost three more points over the next three shots before shooting even with Yun over the final three of the match. "The rain affected me a little bit, but we train a lot in the rain. We even train in the cold rain. But it's disrupting a little bit," Lorig said. "You figure if the first arrow doesn't go in the gold, you're unsure if you should touch the sights or not. I actually shot really well, with the way I feel. It just wasn't meant to be, I guess." Her final match not withstanding, Lorig was pleased with her fourth Olympics Games and the first for her adopted country of the United States. She competed for the Unified Soviet Team in 1992 and with the Republic of Georgia in 1996 and 2000. "It was absolutely excellent. I am so proud. So many people supported me. They came in the rain to see me. It's just great," said Lorig, who has lived in the U.S. for 12 years and became a citizen in 2005. Lorig upset #10 seed Ana Maria Rendon of Colombia, 107-95, earlier in the day to advance to the quarterfinals.
