Compound Qualifying Rounds at World Target Championships

Men's and women's compound concluded their full-day FITA qualifying rounds.  Conditions on the field of play saw a mostly sunny day with swirling winds through the 64 targets.

The USA Men's team of Reo Wilde, Dave Cousins, and Braden Gellenthien finished the day as the top qualifying team.  The USA Men's team total of 4179 finishing 49 points ahead of the Russian's 4130 to El Salvador's 4115. 

Individually the men's team qualified in the first, second, and sixth positions.  Leading the Americans with an impressive 1401 was Reo Wilde.  Starting off strong Wilde began the day shooting a 346 at 90m, taking the lead and never relinquishing the top position.  Finishing strong on the afternoon short distances Wilde concluded with a 352 at 50m and a 360 at 30m.

The second placing American during qualifying was Dave Cousins, shooting a 1392 to finish in the number two position.   A solid day of competition describes the qualifying day for Cousins who finished in the top 9 of all the distances.  Cousin's score in sequence of longest distance to shortest distance were 337, 348, 346, and 359.

Braden Gellenthien was the third member of Team USA, qualifying with a 1386.  Gellenthien finished in sixth place after a rough start at 90m.  Rebounding at 70m Gellenthien began his assault to returning to the top of the list.  His pursuit included a clean 360 at 30m finishing him as the sixth place qualifier.

On the women's side of the field the USA Women's team of Erika Anschutz, Diane Watson, and Kendal Nicely saw stiff winds and competition.  The women's team finished as the number three qualifying team, shooting a 4060.  The Koreans were the top finishers with a 4107 and the Russians were second with a 4069. 

Individually, the Team USA women's competitors finished 15th, 16th, and 30th.  The top qualifying American was Erika Anschutz who finished the competition qualifying 15th with a 1359.  The points for Anschutz at 70, 60, 50, 30 are as follows: 341, 341, 326, and 351.

Kendal Nicely is the second qualifying American, completing the qualifying shooting with a 1358.  Nicely was able to bounce back after a rough start at 70m.  In 32nd place following the 70m Nicely came back to qualify in as the 16th qualifying archer.   Her points for the distances in shooting order were 331, 340, 335, and 352. 

The third qualifying American was Diane Watson who concluded the day with a 1343.  Starting off the day strong at 70m Watson shot a 335 for 18th.  Following a rough 60m Watson returned with a solid performance at the short distances.  Watson's point totals in shooting order were 335, 330, 326, and 352.
