RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Samantha Tucker (Nampa, Idaho) and Kevin Polish (Carmichaels, Pennsylvania) took center stage this morning as first-time Paralympians competing together in the compound open mixed team event. The 9th seeded U.S. duo faced 8th seeded Korea in their first match.
After the first four arrows Tucker and Polish were up by one point. After the second end, Korea moved into the leading position by a point and increased their lead with just four arrows left. Polish and Tucker both posted 9s to Korea's 9 and 8, closing the gap, but then matched arrow for arrow for the last two shots, leaving Korea with a one point win to advance.
Korea went on to upset the top seeded team from Iran and will shoot in the semifinals this afternoon. For complete results from the competition visit www.worldarchery.org.
