USA Archery and the organizers of the Easton Foundations Gator Cup announced today that compound cadet archers will be permitted to participate in the 50 meter compound Elimination Round at the upcoming USAT Qualifier Series event.
Event hosts have confirmed that this will make participating archers eligible to compete for prize money, Senior USAT ranking points, and to compete for placement in the World Archery Championships Team Trials.
The format change was a joint decision between USA Archery and event organizers, in part to be consistent with new rules that FITA has set in place which allow cadets to shoot the same round at 50 meters as junior and senior archers.
"Due to compound archers all shooting the same distance, this was a logical step for the Gator Cup," explained Robert Romero, Head Coach at the Easton Newberry Archery Complex. "We hope that cadet compound archers will seize this opportunity to gain valuable elimination round match play experience, shooting against the country's top junior and senior compound archers."
Recurve cadet archers will still participate exclusively in the qualifying round of the Easton Foundations Gator Cup. Event hosts have noted that the registration fee for compound cadet archers will be readjusted to $150 to reflect this increased opportunity for participation.
