USA Archery Announces Academic All-American Award Recipients

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - USA Archery is excited to announce the 2015 Collegiate Archery Program Academic All-American Award Recipients. This award is a huge honor, recognizing excellence on the archery field as well as in the classroom. The Collegiate Archery Program gives archers a chance to compete on a national level with peers who also hold a rigorous academic schedule.

The Academic All-American Team is composed of the Top 10 archers in each Division and Class based on the following criteria: 

• Archer must have been eligible to shoot in the 2015 Spring semester, meaning they were enrolled as a full time student.
• Required Cumulative GPA of 3.0 for Undergraduate Students and 3.5 for Graduate Students through fall semester 2014.
• USA Archery then takes the top 25% (ranked by score) of each division and class from U.S. Indoor Nationals.
• Archers are then ranked by GPA.

Julie Anne Hoffmann, a senior and captain of the Columbia University Archery Team shared: "Columbia is definitely a work intensive school, making it difficult to dedicate enough time to excel as a student as well as an athlete. I've spent a long time just accepting that I just didn't have enough time to be as good as some of my competitors because of my work load, so winning this award was more than just a shiny medal, it's proof that I can excel at whatever I choose to. Being a dedicated student doesn't have to hold me back and this award makes that clear; it pushes me to be the best I can be in every facet rather than just one."

USA Archery is excited to kick off another great year in the Collegiate Archery Program. Hoffmann was enthusiastic as well: "Having a collegiate division definitely evens the playing field a bit. Students nationwide are all struggling with time management, attempting to finish their papers and still get enough practice in. Having a collegiate division puts you in competition with people who have the same obstacle. It becomes a competition of time management as well as skill, making the competitions more dynamic and the wins more valuable."
