The votes are in and counted... USA Archery is pleased to announce the results from the 2009 Board of Directors election. The new members will begin their terms on Jan. 1, 2010, and they include: Linda Beck (Coach Director); Cindy Bevilacqua (Grassroots Director, JOAD); Greg Easton (At-Large Director); and Helen Sahi (Grassroots Director, College).
Also, the USA Archery Nominating and Governance Committee re-appointed current USA Archery Board Chairman Bill Corbin of Mooresville, N.C., to the board for another four-year term as an independent director. Corbin joined the board in 2008.
"Thank you to all of the members who took the time to vote," said Denise Parker, USA Archery CEO. "We appreciate your involvement in the organization."
Beck, of Maple Lake, Minn., brings over 30 years of archery experience to the board. She obtained the National Archery Association Level 2 coach certificate in 1997 and was named the 2006 USA Archery Developmental Coach of the Year. Beck has coached athletes at the local, national and international level. As a competitor, Beck won the 1995 IBHO World Championship and was a pro staff shooter for 10 years.
"I believe my experience as a coach and archer in combination with my career experiences provide me with the tools, perspective and abilities to effectively represent all levels of archery coaches as a member of the board," said Beck.
Bevilacqua comes to the board in the grassroots position for JOAD Clubs. Based out of West Chester, Pa., she has more than 40 years of archery experience that is highlighted by starting a JOAD Club in Media, Pa., in 1984. The James Madison University graduate was a member of the USA Archery Team in the 1980s. She is also the East Region JOAD Coordinator, and hosted the JOAD Nationals in 2009.
"Thanks for the support in voting me in as the JOAD director," said Bevilacqua. "I'm excited to be a voice for JOAD clubs and all members. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns."
Easton, who was recently named the President and CEO of the Easton Companies, was elected in the At-large category. The Salt Lake City resident also serves as a board member of several for-profit companies, as well as non-profit foundations and organizations, including the Easton Foundations and the Archery Trade Association, where he is a member of the Executive Committee.
Additionally, Easton, who graduated from UCLA, was the president of the 2009 World Archery Youth Championships Organizing Committee and will also oversee the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Archery World Cup events that will be hosted in Ogden, Utah.
"USA Archery has made some good progress recently and I am proud to serve on the board," said Easton. "The recent direction of the board has been exciting and I am looking forward to contributing to the overall direction of the organization."
Sahi, the assistant archery coach at the University of Connecticut, will serve the board in the grassroots position for college programs. The Willington, Conn., resident has also been the president of the Connecticut Target Archers Association for six years. Professionally, she is currently the Manager of Sustainability at Energy New England where she assists companies in developing environmental and sustainability programs. For the past 11 years, her family has actively competed in both recurve and compound disciplines.
"I look at this as an opportunity to bring a fresh perspective to the board," said Sahi. "I also envision building a stronger grassroots involvement at the state level."
These four individuals will join the USA Archery Board of Directors for its next meeting in the first quarter of 2010. The USA Archery Board of Directors meets in person two times per year and conducts conference calls on a needed basis. The board represents the interests of the archery community for USA Archery and its athletes by providing USA Archery with policy, guidance and strategic direction.
