Colorado Springs, CO - Following a USA Archery Board of Directors (BOD) conference call yesterday, the 2011 USAT Qualifier Series schedule has been finalized, with changes from the schedule that was originally released.
The Gold Cup, which also serves as the second leg of the World Championships Team Trials, has been moved to May 12-15 to avoid a conflict with the United States Intercollegiate Archery Championships (USIAC), as well as to allow the World Championship team the time necessary to travel to the second stage of the World Cup together.
The second schedule change approved by the BOD concerns the first leg of the Olympic Trials, which will now take place as a standalone event in College Station, Texas. The Olympic Trials, previously scheduled for August, will now begin with official practice on September 28th and will run through Saturday, October 1st. The Texas Shootout, originally planned for these dates, will not take place this year. This change prevents a conflict with the World University Games that was present with the event's original August dates.
"In looking at the first leg of the Olympic Trials, we carefully considered all available options," explains Denise Parker, CEO of USA Archery. "Avoiding the World University Games was important, but we also had to work around international events, and wanted to avoid scheduling the event so late in the year as to put archers in colder climates at a disadvantage. Scheduling the first leg of the Trials in this way resolves all of these issues."
