Otto and Tabansky seek to set the tone for the weekend in claiming the USA's first gold in Brazil

SÃO PAULO, Brazil – USA struck gold on Friday at the 2024 Para Pan American Championships as Tracy Otto and Jason Tabansky combined to defeat host nation Brazil in the W1 mixed team.

The Brazil pair of Juliana Cristin Ferreira Da Silva and Eugenio Santana Franco earlier defeated Chile 120-81 to set up a meeting with the USA. Otto and Tabansky proved too strong, taking top honors with a 138-119 victory.

These four archers will be back on the field on Saturday in the individual competition. Tabansky, the defending champion from 2022 and number two seed, tackles Santana Franco, the top seed and bronze medalist from two years ago. Otto faces Ferreira Da Silva in their gold medal match.

Elsewhere on Friday, and the recurve women open doubles team of Candice Caesar and Karen Sternfeld took silver, while the compound men open doubles of Robert Griffith and Nicholas Peacock finished fourth. They lost out on a spot in the gold medal match by one point in a 142-141 defeat to top seeds Mexico.
